Retatrutide Vial Documentation: Labels, SKUs, and Batch Records

A retatrutide vial carries three records: the label, the SKU string, and the batch record. Here is what each must state and where they must match.

Three separate records travel with a retatrutide vial, and they are not interchangeable. The vial label carries the compound name, the total mass in milligrams, a lot or batch number, and a fill or expiry date. The SKU is the seller’s catalog string, the only one of the three that is not a manufacturing artifact. The batch record, usually supplied as a certificate of analysis, ties that lot number to an assay result and a test date. Retatrutide vial documentation is checkable only when the lot on the label, the size field in the SKU, and the lot on the COA all agree.

What does a retatrutide vial label actually state?

A label states mass, not dose. “10 mg” printed on the vial is the total lyophilised peptide in the container, and it carries no instruction about how that mass would be divided. For scale, the phase 2 obesity trial in 338 adults ran once-weekly subcutaneous arms of 1 mg, 4 mg, 8 mg and 12 mg over 48 weeks, with a primary endpoint of percentage body-weight change at 24 weeks, reported in the 2023 NEJM retatrutide phase 2 trial report. That same report gives the development code LY3437943, so a label printing both the code and the generic name matches the published nomenclature.

The lot number is the load-bearing field, because it is the only one that appears on two documents. Strike it from the label and the COA becomes unattachable: there is no way to show that the paperwork describes the glass in front of you rather than a different fill run.

Dates are the second field worth reading closely. A fill date plus a stated shelf window is more useful than a bare expiry, since only a fill date lets you place the COA test date in sequence. The COA is the record most often substituted. A seller sends a generic compound COA, dated months earlier and carrying no lot number, in place of a lot-specific one. Treat that as an untested lot. A certificate that cannot be tied to a lot number tells you what the vendor’s peptide looked like once, not what arrived.

The SKU deserves less trust than the other two because the seller writes it and can revise it silently. Size, format and count all live in that string, and the conventions differ between vendors; how catalog codes encode size and format sets out the common patterns.

What does the SKU size field change about cost per mg?

The mg figure in the SKU is the denominator for every cost comparison, which is why a mismatch between it and the label matters in money terms as well as documentary ones.

The 20 mg format works out $0.25/mg cheaper, a 2.5% gap (0.25 ÷ 10.00). That is a narrow margin, and it disappears entirely if the larger vial’s documentation is thinner, since an untraceable lot has no usable value per mg at all. The 10 mg and 20 mg formats compared covers the size trade-off on its own terms.

The label mg figure also fixes concentration. A 10 mg vial reconstituted with 2 mL of bacteriostatic water gives 10 ÷ 2 = 5 mg/mL; on a U-100 syringe where 1 mL = 100 units, one unit holds 0.01 mL, so 5 mg/mL × 0.01 mL = 0.05 mg, or 50 mcg per unit. Run the same arithmetic on a 20 mg vial with 2 mL and you get 10 mg/mL and 100 mcg per unit. A SKU that says 10 mg over a vial labelled 20 mg puts every one of those figures out by a factor of two.

Why is there no standard retatrutide package insert to check a label against?

Retatrutide has no approved product labeling to compare a vendor label against, because the registrational program is still running. The TRIUMPH program consists of four phase 3, multicenter, randomized, double-blind studies of weekly subcutaneous retatrutide against placebo in over 5800 participants, with percent change in body weight as the weight-management primary endpoint, per the TRIUMPH phase 3 design paper.

That absence explains the variation you see across listings. With no reference insert, there is no fixed field list, no mandated ordering, and no standard expiry convention, so two vendors can both be internally consistent and still print different things. Documentation quality becomes a per-vendor question rather than a compliance one.

It also means a label claiming to follow an approved retatrutide product monograph is describing a document that does not exist.

What makes a batch record checkable?

A batch record is checkable when a third party could repeat the check. Five fields carry that weight: the lot number, the assay method named explicitly rather than as “tested”, the numeric purity result, the test date, and a lab name that resolves to a traceable entity. Drop any one and the record degrades into a claim.

Check the dates against each other last. If the test date on the COA precedes the fill date on the label, the certificate describes a different lot, since a lab cannot report on a vial that had not been filled when its sample was drawn.
